Why I Run and Welcome to the Blog

I'm a runner.  I'm currently training for my first ever half marathon. Not long ago I wouldn't have considered that possible.  Out of nowhere I went down with a form of arthritis. With the help of the my local hospital it was generally under control.  But when it flared up, just the touch of the material from sleeping under a sheet was painful.

Then last year we really got on top of the symptoms and I was able to start running again. I ran Run Norwich and will do so again this year as well as my first ever half marathon in October The Royal Parks.

I'm going to use this blog to share my thoughts as I train.  It's not going to be a running blog with lots of maps and times (although if I set a personal best I may share...).  But it will be reflections on life through the lens of my running.  I'm a senior leader in the NHS and often as I run I think about parallels with running. I think about the challenges facing the world and what it means for me to make a difference and I have fun and let go of my stress.  That's what this blog will be about.

In running the races this year I'm also seeking to raise money for a fantastic charity called The Amos Trust.  What I like about them is that they work with grass roots organisations, working with anyone interested in justice and alleviating suffering for those most hurting. You can see more about them below. And it would mean alot to me if you'd sponsor me via my fundraising page.

I look forward to getting to know you.
